Reddit reacts to Chole Bhature’s shocking performance in a Swedish restaurant
Chole Bhature is not just food, it’s emotions! Many Indian foodies would agree with this. After all, Indian cuisine is not only about flavoring and spices but also about preparing and serving traditional dishes. What we find in Indian eateries can rarely be replicated in restaurants abroad. An Indian man realized this when he was served chole bhature at a restaurant in Stockholm, Sweden. The man posted a photo of the dish on Reddit and wrote: “Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Chole Bhature that I was served at an Indian restaurant in Stockholm, Sweden. I miss home.” We know why. The photo shows a pile of chole and salad lying on a flat plate. In India, chole bhature consists of smooth bhature with chole and salad served separately on the side. Image caption indicates the restaurant is run by a Bangladeshi family.

The user then also describes the taste of the honey. At least, it’s not the spicy food we enjoy in India. The man complained that the bhatura was “sweet, super thick and almost dry” while the chole was “bland” with no seasoning and only salt and pepper. On top of that, this dish costs almost Rs 1,000. That was reason enough for him to leave the hotel in frustration.

Seeing the pitiful dish, Reddit users couldn’t help but react. When someone commented, “Bhatura looks like kachori,” the user replied that it was “fried scotch brite.”
Foodies have had a hard time accepting this version of chole bhature. In fact, some would rather have no food than to eat this demonstration of it. One user wrote, “I would probably watch a YouTube video about chole bhature and drink water rather than eat this.”
One called it the “cultural appropriation” of Indian dishes.
