Reports: Aroldis Chapman agrees to one-year, $10.5 million contract with Pirates
Seven-time All-Star reliever Aroldis Chapman and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in agreement on a one-year, $10.5 million contract, according to multiple reports.
The 35-year-old is coming off a 2023 season that saw him open the year with the Kansas City Royals before being dealt to the World Series champion Texas Rangers.
Chapman posted a 3.09 ERA over 58.1 innings between both stops, collecting six saves in the process. He also struck out 103 batters while issuing 36 walks.
In the post-season, the hard-throwing left-hander struggled with his command, walking five in 8.1 innings.
Over 14 MLB seasons, Chapman has pitched for the Rangers, Royals, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds, and is third among all active relievers with 321 career saves.
In Pittsburgh, he will join David Bedner at the back of the bullpen for a Pirates team that hopes to compete in 2024.
With his $10.5 million salary, Chapman becomes the highest-paid player on the Pirates roster for 2024.
