Astronaut (GB) (Bated’s Breath {GB} –Sky Crystal {Ger}, by Galileo {Ire}), successful in group events in the UK and Ireland and three times ranked as a Class I company in North America, will enter in 2023 at Joe Foley’s Ballyhane Stud, where he will serve mares for an introductory fee of €6,500.
Wearing the colors of Clipper Logistics and being coached in Europe by Richard Fahey, Space Traveler was placed in Group 3 as a teenager before winning the G3 Jersey S. at Royal Ascot–beating multiple top scorers. Future leader Space Blues (Ire)–and was the last to first winner of the G2 Boomerang Mile at the weekend of the Irish Championship at Leopardstown at the age of three. Moved to Brendan Walsh’s stable in the US in the summer of 2021, the Space Traveler is a trusted performer at the highest level between eight and nine distances, runner-up in the GI Ricoh Woodbine Mile, runner-up. three unlucky at the GI Pegasus World Cup Turf in Florida and an equally unlucky second in his final start at the GI FE Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita last March. He retired with five wins and seven minor rankings in 25 starts with earnings of nearly $750,000.
The highest rated son of Bated’s BreathSpace Traveler is a Galileo mare from the poignant Crystal Music family.
Foley, who purchased the Space Traveler for 85,000gns at Tattersalls in October 2017, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Astronaut back to Ballyhane. He gave us great days on the track and his Royal Ascot win was memorable as his acceleration that day was so impressive. Via rhythmic breathing from a Galileo mare which is not herself from a Kingmambo mare, he gives the breeders some excellent blood to mate.”
