India’s T20I captain, Rohit Sharma, will become vice-captain of the Test team, sources told NDTV. Rohit will replace Ajinkya Rahane as Virat Kohli’s vice-captain during the upcoming tour to South Africa. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah told ANI. Jay Shah also confirmed to ANI that while India will be playing three Tests and multiple ODIs in South Africa, four T20Is are expected to be held at a later date.
Rahane who missed Second test in progress sources say against New Zealand in Mumbai due to injury his vice-captain will lose the vice-captain from the South Africa tour with Rohit Sharma taking his place.
Rahane has been in poor form in recent games, and has averaged just 19 of 11 Tests this year. He’s been under pressure to return among the runs with new faces like Shreyas Iyer having made their presence felt in the game’s longest format.
Rahane’s lackluster performance with the bat continues in Check Kanpur also. Taking the lead without Kohli, the right-hander scored a total of 39 runs in two innings.
However, his debut as the team’s captain was hailed as India narrowly won the match in the final hour of Day 5 in Kanpur.
Meanwhile, India will tour South Africa with three Tests and three ODIs.

“BCCI has confirmed to CSA that the Indian team will participate in three Tests and three ODIs. The remaining four T20Is will be broadcast at a later date,” Shah told ANI.
