Roman Gonzalez vs Juan Francisco Estrada 3 March 5 in San Diego Boxing News 24
Via Jim Calfa: Former quadruple world champion Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez will take on WBA super flyweight champion Juan ‘Gallo’ Estrada in a match three months from now on March 5 in San Diego, California.
Hopefully quality referees will work for the Chocolatito vs. Estrada III because the last thing boxing fans need is a repeat of their previous fight.
The two fighters are drawing 1-1 after their recent controversial clash last March at the American Aviation Center in Dallas, Texas.
Although Chocolatito (50-3, 41 KOs) seemed to take the decisive win with a score of 116-112, two judges gave Estrada and one of them won wide, giving him nine thirds.
As long as the umpires choose the right man in the three-part match, there should be no problem, but it would be bad if we saw a repeat of the odd goal from the second match between Chocolatito and Estrada last March. .
That outcome left a bad taste in the mouths of boxing fans, who considered Chocolatito overwhelmingly victorious, but it was yet another example of referees seeing a match differently from the masses. .
The referee who scored 117-111 for Estrada sent the fans crazy, as they watched it from space.
Estrada’s victory is VERY suspicious
It was a war in which 31-year-old Estrada was very, very questionable Decisive 12 innings win over Nicaraguan ‘Chocolatito’, fans who initially sided with Estrada booed a lot when the results were announced.
The referees score the Chocolatito – Estrada rematch as follows:
- 115-113 – Estrada
- 117-111 – Estrada
- 115-113 – Chocolatito
Boxing News 24 has Chocolatito winning eight fourth rounds [116-112], and there’s no doubt that he’s the better fighter of the two.
In fact, 34-year-old Roman appeared to have won against Estrada in an even more decisive way than in their first game in November 2012 at the Gymnasium in Los Angeles, California.
Chocolatito won that match 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112. There were plenty of complaints from boxing fans after the months-long competition, who felt that Estrada had done enough to deserve a win or at least a draw.
Just like in their last battle in March, Chocolatito’s relentlessly coordinated punches were too much for Estrada, who couldn’t be compared to Roman.
San Diego is NOT the ideal location
Book the trilogy match Roman Gonzalez vs. Juan Estrada of Southern California could cause trouble because the crowds will almost certainly pro-Estrada.
From the promoter’s point of view, you can understand why they would want to host a Chocolatito vs. Estrada 3 in Southern California in San Diego. Having the contest take place in that location guarantees a large number of buyers for the fight.
It makes business sense, but it has the potential to harm Chocolatito, whose Nicaraguan fan base will outnumber Estrada’s large fan base.
Suppose the match officials subconsciously received their cues from boxing fans attending a Gonzalez-Estrada match in San Diego, as some believe happened during their rematch. last March in Dallas, Texas.
Chocolatito may not be able to win a decision. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a big deal if Roman scored against Estrada, but that’s unlikely.
Estrada can shoot well, and he used a lot of movement in his two fights with Chocolatito because he couldn’t match punch output like his machine gun.
Ideally, the trilogy match between Estrada and Roman should be in neutrality wherein none of the fighters had a significant following.
New York or Connecticut would be perfect as neither of the fighter’s fan bases are close to massive numbers.
