Russia announces humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine for today
Moscow:
Russian news agencies reported that Moscow declared a humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine on Wednesday morning to carry out the evacuation of civilians.
“From 10:00 MSK (07:00 GMT) March 9, 2022, the Russian Federation declares a ‘silent regime’ and is ready to provide humanitarian corridors”, an agency of the Russian Defense Ministry in charge of humanitarian activities in Ukraine said Tuesday.
It added that Russia proposed to agree the routes and start times of humanitarian corridors with Ukraine “before 03:00 MSK on 9 March”.
Civilian evacuations took place on Tuesday morning, especially from the town of Sumy, where two convoys left for the day.
Evacuations also took place outside the capital, Kyiv.
However, efforts to evacuate the port town of Mariupol have failed in recent days, with both Kyiv and Moscow blaming the other side for the failures.
