Russia successfully tested the Zircon . hypersonic missile
Moscow:
On Monday, Russia said it had conducted another successful test of its Zircon hypersonic cruise missile, as world powers race to develop the advanced weapon.
Russia, the US, France and China are all testing so-called hypersonic gliders – defined as reaching speeds of at least Mach 5.
As part of the “complete process of tests” on Russia’s hypersonic missile weapons, the Admiral Gorshkov warship launched a Zircon missile at a target in the Barents Sea in the Barents Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said. 400 km (about 250 miles).
“The target was hit,” the ministry said, describing the test as a success.
The missile has undergone several tests recently, with Russia planning to equip Zircon on both warships and submarines.
Putin revealed the development of this new weapon during a nationwide speech in February 2019, saying that it could hit sea and land targets with a range of 1,000 km (approximately 1,000 miles). 620 miles) and a speed of Mach 9.
Russia’s latest Zircon test comes after the West reported that a test flight of a Chinese supersonic glider in July resulted in the firing of a missile mid-flight at an accelerated rate. 5 times the speed of sound in the South China Sea.
Until testing, no leading power had demonstrated a comparable medium-range missile launch capability.
China dismissed the report, saying it was a routine test of a reusable space vehicle.
Russia has prided itself on developing a number of weapons that can disrupt existing defenses, including the Sarmat intercontinental missile and the Burevestnik cruise missile.
