Fencer was one of the most powerful low-altitude long-range military aircraft of the Soviet era. This aircraft is often compared to the American General Dynamics F-111, as well as the European Tornado.
The Su-24 is designed to penetrate hostile territory and destroy ground and ground targets in any weather conditions, day or night. Variations of the Su-24 have also been produced, designed for reconnaissance and electronic countermeasures.
The attack jet is armed with the following types of surface-to-air missiles: Kh-23 or Kh-23M radio-guided missiles (NATO designation AS-7 Kerry) (5km range; carries 4 missiles) fire); Passive radar-guided missiles Kh-28 (AS-9 Kyle) and Kh-58 (range 90km; can carry up to two missiles). Two Vympel R-60 (AA-8 Aphid) air-to-air missiles with a range of 3 km were also carried.
