Via Craig Daly: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis upset Ryan Garcia on Tuesday by saying that the reason he has a developmental delay is because his parents are cousins. In response, Ryan said he was going to knock out Tank (27-0.25 KOs) in a minute, and when he wakes up, he’ll apologize for the words.
Ryan (23-0, 19KOs) is trying so hard to make ‘regular’ WBA lightweight champion Tank Davis so angry that he’ll agree to fight him.
The problem Ryan has is that he’s fighting on a different network than Tank Davis, and he wants him up to 140 instead of seeing him in his division.
The tank is too small for the 140lb class, and that was set when he struggled to beat paper champ Mario Barrios last year.
Since Ryan is someone who really wants to fight Tank Davis, it makes sense for him to be relegated to 135. If Ryan can’t or won’t fight at lightweight, then he needs to focus on fighting the 140 lb Fighter and leave the Tank alone.

It would be better for Ryan to build a solid resume by proving that he can beat A & B level fighters to help entice Gervonta to fight him because he is focusing too much on the competition. C-class fighters on their way out of the sport like Javier Fortuna, Chris Algieri, Chris Van Heerden and Samuel Vargas.

It won’t be good for Ryan when he’s going up against Tank Davis this year. Ryan stands on the wrong side of the pond compared to Tank Davis, and he lacks the strong resume needed for him to be able to fight.
