Via Jim Calfa: In a statement on Friday, Ryan Garcia revealed that he is no longer working with Eddy Reynoso and will now be coached by celebrity trainer Joe Goosen.
There is much speculation as to why undefeated lightweight contender Ryan (21-0, 18 KOs) split from Reynoso, who coached Canelo Alvarez, Oscar Valdez and Andy Ruiz Jr, among many others.
Was it the language barrier between the two, or perhaps Reynoso had too many other boxers in his cage, which might have prevented him from giving Ryan the time and attention he needed?
Some boxing fans suggest that Reynoso chose to end his coaching relationship with young Ryan, and not vice versa. At this point, it’s just a guess anyway. All you can say is that Ryan won’t be working with Reynoso.
It is almost impossible to believe that aspiring coach Reynoso will part ways with a future superstar like King Ry.
The timing of Ryan making the switch seemed to indicate that he needed a coach who had time to work with him.
Ryan has an important contest on April 9 against Emmanuel Tagoethis will lead to a big stadium showdown in Australia later this year against the IBF/WBA/WBC Franchise/WBO lightweight champions George Kambosos Jr.
Joe will be working alongside Ryan’s father, Henry Garcia. Ryan didn’t say why he moved, but we don’t know that Canelo recently commented that he wants to see more young fighters in the gym.

“I can’t wait to go back to where we left off and continue this journey together. Now I will work out at my own gym, Fierce King, in San Diego – and my goal remains the same: to be a world champion,” said Ryan Garcia.
So here it is. Ryan is currently with Goosen, while Reynoso is part of the past. It will be interesting to see how Ryan and no-nonsense trainer Goosen use the gel together.
Goosen will have a lot of things that he will likely want to change in Ryan’s game, perhaps starting with his defense. In Ryan’s last game, he was knocked out by Luke Campbell in the second round in 2021.
Goosen will work with Ryan to prepare him for his April 9 fight with Emmanuel Tagoe (32-1, 15 KOs) at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The contest will be shown live on DAZN.
It is believed that Ryan can challenge undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. next if he passes Tagoe, who is promoted by Lou DiBella. It was the same person who promoted Kambosos.
Canelo criticizes Ryan Garcia
Superstar Canelo Alvarez recently criticized Ryan in an interview, questioning his dedication.
“Look, Ryan has a lot of talent. But in my eyes, he is wasting a lot of time and wasting his talent. I look at him and I don’t see him as 100% dedicated. and, for us, that’s a bad sign,” Canelo told Complicated in criticizing the young star.
“We always remind him to go to the gym,“Canelo talks about Ryan Garcia. “To train and learn.”
