Ryan Garcia trains with Derrick James: How long before he’s fired?
Via Adam Baskin: Ryan Garcia has started training with new coach Derrick James in Texas, hoping to reinvent himself at the age of 140 with the help of the famous trainer.
When looking at the training footage, what immediately catches your eye is Ryan (23-1, 19 KOs) standing up straight without bending his knees, like a Green heron wetland birds, scooping up pieces of shrimp in shallow water.
How long before Ryan Garcia fires Derrick James? This writer would be surprised if James got through two fights before getting penalized for not being able to turn him from an influencer/boxer to a world champion.
Derrick cut his job because Ryan Garcia, 24, worked with three coaches and none of them improved him.
James will be able lose patience when he saw that Ryan did not follow his instructions and was frequently beaten during matches.
In Ryan’s widely criticized final game against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, he dropped to his knees after being knocked out with a shot in the seventh round last April.
What enraged boxing fans was that Ryan immediately stood up, looking unscathed after the referee gave him a ten. It gives the impression that Ryan has quit.
Can Derrick James make Ryan a world champion? It’s not a good sign as Derrick is eager to let Ryan fight the weakest link of the champions at 140, Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero. Indeed, if Derrick believes in Ryan, he’s fueling a fight with one of these killers:
- Subriel Matias – IBF
- Teofimo López – WBO
- Regis Prograis – WBC
In the end, Ryan abandoned his trainer and moved on when they couldn’t turn him into an undefeated boxer. The basic problem is Ryan doesn’t follow instructions good from his coaches. He’s one of those know-it-all types.
As his recently fired coach Joe Goosen pointed out, you don’t coach Ryan Garcia in the traditional way. Collaborator with him, which some boxing fans consider to be code language which means that Ryan is stubborn, non-listener and untrainable.
Even if Ryan follows Derrick James’s instructions and who his next trainer is after he hands him the royal boot out the door, he will NOT turn out to be a quality boxer. that you can put in the ring with the likes of Gervonta Davis, Subriel Matias, or Regis Prograis and expect him to win.
“He’s in the gym like that,” lightweight candidate Frank Martin said fight about Ryan Garcia working out in the same gym as him.
“He might not want to fight me after we’re in the ring and stuff. We can be cool. You never know how that plays out,” Martin said when asked if he thought he’d end up fighting Ryan Garcia.
It’s highly unlikely that Ryan wants to fight Frank Martin if he works with him during the fight. He will see the writing on the wall after fighting Frank and will avoid him like the plague.
One gets the feeling that Ryan is ONLY interested in making as much money as he can by targeting fighters like Rolly Romero. If Teofimo comes back, he’ll be on Ryan’s list. Frank Martin doesn’t have the following for Ryan to want to fight him; Besides, he’s too dangerous.
