Saudi Arabia and Foxconn partner for the Ceer EV brand
Foxconn has added the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to its growing list of partners in the automotive world.
Cooperated with Taiwan’s largest car manufacturer to created the Foxtron brandand after confirming it will build cars for FiskerThe company best known for making iPhones has partnered with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) to develop and build electric cars for the Middle East.
The new Ceer brand will become the first to produce electric vehicles in Saudi Arabia, and plans to produce sedans and SUVs for the Middle East and North Africa. The first cars are “expected to be on the market” in 2025.
The company will license some components from BMW and promise to lead in “the areas of infotainment technology, connectivity and autonomous driving.”
Foxconn will provide electric architecture for cars, suggesting that the MiH platform will likely be part of the brand’s plans.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of HRH said: “Saudi Arabia is not only building a new car brand, we are sparking a new industry and an ecosystem that attracts international investments and local.
The crown prince said boosting electric vehicle production would create “job opportunities for local talent, support the private sector and contribute to Saudi Arabia’s GDP growth over the next decade, as part of the PIF’s strategy to promote economic growth in line with Vision 2030”.
It’s not yet clear what the cars from Ceer will look like, but Foxconn has provided some details about its MiH platform.
The architecture can have a wheelbase from 2750mm to 3100mm, and supports a variety of track and vehicle heights, making it suitable for sedans, hatches, crossovers and passenger cars. It introduced a city hatch and a dual cab on the platform for the Foxtron brand.
93kWh, 100kWh and 116kWh battery packs can be installed. Based on the introductory video, the platform also supports a full set of active driver support.
A variety of electric motors can be used at both ends, with initial offers including 95kW, 150kW and 200kW front motors, and 150kW, 200kW, 240kW and 340kW units for the rear axle.
Like Tesla’s range of “EV iPhones,” Foxtron wants its EV platform to be open-source “Android of EVs.”
