Saudi Arabia F1 tournament organizers tweak circuit layout to improve driver visibility
Some minor tweaks will be made to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix’s Jeddah streets to improve driver visibility around corners, organizers said on Thursday.
“First, there will be one or two minor changes to the track,” Saudi Sports Car Company CEO Martin Whitaker said in a statement.
“These modifications are directly related to the driver’s view from the cockpit.
“It’s minimal work, but it should help improve front visibility in a few corners.”
The 6.1-kilometer Jeddah Corniche made its Formula One debut in December and is considered the second-fastest track on the calendar after Monza in Italy.
Its flow layout is mostly flat winds along the city’s Red Sea waterfront and a succession of high-speed corners enclosed by walls, making it difficult for drivers to spot cars. move slower at some turns.
That led to a number of near misses in practice and qualifying, before the track produced a dramatic run on Sunday that was halted twice due to collisions.
Drivers love to tear up the layout at high speed but are concerned about the lack of visibility around corners.
“The interval between the two races helped us reflect on some of the areas that worked and didn’t work,” said Whitaker, adding that some hurdles around the track will also be covered. modified to fit the track where the riders have passed some of the corners.
“And we tried to improve a few areas for our second event.”
The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will take place on March 27, a week after the Bahrain Grand Prix opens the season.
