It was with real excitement in her voice that promoter Nisse Sauerland lowered the curtain for Thursday night’s Wasserman boxing show at York Hall, through which the ambitious outfit is launching the concept’ Their new The Development Series’. Boxing Social will exclusively broadcast this first offer in the UK and Ireland.
The 42-year-old told Boxing Social: “Since the pandemic hit, a lot of boxers if not forgotten. “If you talk to the British [Boxing] Board [of Control] you also know that a lot of fighters have not renewed their license. The ‘development chain’ is partly a response to that.
“Basically, for us – and for Boxing Social – this series is about developing new talent. It’s about keeping the boxing eco-system running. I think we’ve got a really good, strong card, and I think with Boxing Social’s reach, we should do some really good numbers. I think it’s a really creative setup with some really good partners, which makes it a great project to work on.
“We always said we wanted to do something like this to develop talent. There’s a lot of good, undiscovered raw talent in the UK that we don’t see or hear about. Given the size of our business and with the help of Boxing Social, we hope to shine some light on them. Hopefully their talent will support the reach and numbers we believe will give them. ”
Turning his attention to the show itself, Sauerland outlined what viewers can expect when they visit Boxing Social’s Facebook or Youtube pages on Thursday night.
“I think the main event is going to be an absolute one,” he said. “Harvey Horn is a local boy and would love to put on a great performance. We also have two debuting heavyweights that kicked off their careers, Matthew Harris and Hosea Stewart.
“Also, we have Chloe Watson on the show, another newcomer coached by Ricky Hatton, and a very good fighter. Then we also have Harvey’s younger brother, Louis, debuting in lightweight and we have SK [Saqib Khan] aka ‘The Show Stopper’, who I’ve heard great things from amateurs.
“We have Ryan Martin, who protects Adam Booth and is definitely someone to watch. There’s also Martin Foru, who will also add a bit of international spice to it. I think it’s a really good show, we’re really happy and proud to be on it. ”
Horn himself admitted he enjoyed being in the lead on Thursday night. “I’m buzzing,” the 26-year-old Chigwell southpaw (9-0) said of his duel with Fadhili Majiha. “I’m really looking forward to it… I’ve got a bit of a perspective on my opponent. I have seen what he does. I’ve found he can be a little trickier, but I know what I have to do. I have ten rounds to impose my game plan on him and I am confident that I can get the job done. I had a great camp, I’m in great shape and my game went well.
“Now the ball is rolling. The main problem in my career so far has been inactivity. Had the opportunity, but I was not motivated. Since signing with Wasserman Boxing, I’ve had two fights in eight weeks. They knew that if I was properly motivated and kept busy it would be a world honor for me. “
Like Horn, Sauerland is excited about the future of Wasserman Boxing, who acquired his family’s long and old Team Sauerland business in March.
“I think we’ve made some really interesting deals and contacts,” Sauerland said of his first months with Wasserman. “We’ve also had some good shows so far and you know we’re still in the early stages. We are very excited for the years to come. It’s been an exciting project and we’re excited to be back in boxing after all the problems of the pandemic and multiple lockdowns. We’re eager to go and find a way to take things to the next step, the next level! ”
