NEW DELHI: A total of 12 central ministries are trying to boost indigenous demand for drone services and India will need around a thousand drone pilots in the coming years, Air Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Tuesday.
“We’re taking the drone sector forward on three wheels. The first wheel is of policy. You’ve seen how fast we’re implementing policy,” Scindia said at a press conference. Niti Aayog events here.
The second wheel is creating momentum, he says.
“The PLI The scheme (to encourage production linkages) is implemented under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister Narendra Modiwill give a new impetus to production and services in the field of drones,” added the minister.
The PLI plan was introduced in September 2021 as a sequel to the Liberalized Drone Rules, 2021 announced by the ministry on August 25 last year.
Scindia says the third wheel is to create local demand, and 12 sets have tried to create that demand.
Today, someone who has passed the Grade 12 exam can be trained as a drone pilot and doesn’t need a college degree to do so, he points out.
“With two-three months of training, this person will do his job as a drone pilot with a monthly salary of around Rs 30,000,” the minister said.
“We need close to a thousand drone pilots in the coming years. So the opportunity is huge,” he added.
On September 16 last year, Scindia said India’s drone industry would reach a turnover of up to Rs 15,000 crore by 2026.
The first round of applications for the PLI program was invited on March 10 and the results were announced on April 20, in which the Adani Group’s joint venture with Israeli company Elbit, IdeaForge Technology and 12 companies Another drone company has been selected as the beneficiary.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation invites the second batch of documents to be submitted for the project on May 5.
