Sea Of Thieves gives away an emoji to celebrate 5 million Steam copies sold
The Xbox-published title that aims to simulate life at sea has passed another major milestone and is giving away a special gift to mark it. Sea of Thieves has sold five million copies on Steam, and it’s entering the festive season filled with carnival cheers, as well as a bit of a pirate’s favorite drink. If you’re interested, the developers at Rare recommend playing the game between now and mid-next week to receive a special emoji. The team announced this achievement on The game’s official blog, along with the news that over 25 million players have dived into the Sea of Thieves to hunt for treasure, explore the oceans, and live the life of a wanderer with their friends.
In response to the new mob of pirates embracing the game, Rare wrote a thank you note. It reads in part:
With Sea of Thieves is our first game developed in house for PC as well as Xbox, we are really excited to see a large number of new pirates starting their adventures since the game was launched Steam last June. No matter what platform you play on Sea of Thieves above, this would never have been possible without your support, players – so all we can say is thank you!
While Sea of Thieves is currently basking in the glory of its current fortune, it’s strange to remember that the ambitious game didn’t shine at launch. The game was released in 2018 and received mixed reception, with Sea of Thieves original review says that the game concept is the sound, but the experience is a bit of the backbone. This warm first impression seemed to spell doom for the game, but the developers stuck with the title. Finally, content like the Pirate Life expansion, introduces a great cross between Sea of Thieves and But the pirate of the Caribbean, draw players back to the fascinating adventure.
The resulting boost turned the title into a great collaborative experience to share with friends, earning it a place on our list of 10 best co-op games to play now. It’s possible Rare hopes the game’s impressive sales numbers will increase as players search for games to share over the holidays, leading to a holiday offer. If you log in between now and December 29, you’ll get a free emoji called All Together Now!
