Seth Meyers Slams Trump and Hannity’s Crazy Plan for Bombing Russia
Seth Meyers spent most of his latest “A Closer Look” segment Monday night imagining what situation in Ukraine could be right now if Donald Trump had successfully carried out his coup and was still president.
“We’ve come very close to a world where Trump remains in power during Russia’s brutal and illegal invasion of Ukraine, which is scary for many reasons.” Midnight the host explained. “One of them is that Trump continues to give us a glimpse of how he will react. And as usual, it has Trump’s unique blend of both scary and downright stupid. “
Meyers mentioned the Trump idea floating on the weekend with GOP sponsors about painting the Chinese flag on American planes so they can “bomb Russia out of Russia” and then “sit back and watch” as those two superpowers go to war.
“He definitely got his ideas from cartoons,” said the presenter. “I mean, this is a slightly goofy version of Bugs Bunny dressing up as a sexy woman to distract Elmer Fudd.” Then he imagines Trump saying, “We plant the Chinese flag on the plane and if that doesn’t work, we paint a tunnel in the mountainside.”
Meyers also researched where Trump may have gotten his latest “crazy idea” from: Fox News’ Sean Hannity, who recently called on NATO to bring the Russian convoy to Kyiv, adding, “And then nobody noticed it, so then Putin wouldn’t know who to hit back.”
“Do you really think that’s how it works?” Meyers asked. “It’s a mystery unless someone notes it? It was an aerial bombardment, not a fart at a dinner party.”
To those on the right who are claiming this “will never happen with the Trump following,” the host pointed out to Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who laughs. said that Russia wouldn’t dare invade Ukraine “because Trump will have a kick in the ass”.
“He would kick their ass,” Meyers said as Graham. “But he would do it with a shoe that says ‘China’ on the bottom so that later when they look at their pants they’ll say, ‘No, I know who kicked my ass’ and a war will begin between those two countries. and we will walk the street easily. “
