Shakur Stevenson wants Joe Cordina in the UK
Via Jack Tiernan: Shortly after Joe Cordina’s impressive second-round knockout win over IBF featherweight super champion Kenichi Ogawa on Saturday night, WBO champion Shakur Stevenson posted on social media that he wants to take on Joe is next and ready to go to England to fight.
Cordina (15-0.9 KOs) and his promoter Eddie Hearn need to think hard and decide if they want to accept a challenge from undefeated Shakur (18-0.9 KOs) or not. because it will be a much tougher fight than what they had against 34 year old Ogawa (26-2-1, 18 KOs).
Going into the fight tonight, it is believed that if there is a knockout match, it will come from heavyweight Ogawa and not Cordina.
But the powerful Japanese puncher offered a right-handed lead from Cordina in the second round, and he fell hard in the back. There was no chance that Ogawa could get up from that punch to continue fighting.
“In terms of explosive shots and draws, that’s been achieved there,” said Eddie Hearn. Boxing in the matchreacts to Joe Cordina’s second-round knockout win over Ogawa on Saturday night.

“I rate Shakur Stevenson as one of the best boxers in the world, but when you put out such performances when you win world titles like that, you have to talk about those fights. .
“I don’t see anyone in the tournament that I would give a better chance against Shakur Stevenson than Joe Cordina, who could beat Shakur Stevenson. He is a great fighter.
“We have Shavkat Rakhimov as an imperative that we have to take care of, and you also have Zelfa Barrett as a big domestic game. But in the end, Joe’s goal now is to unify and become undisputed.
“Whether it’s in Cardiff or the Millennium Stadium, I think Shakur Stevenson tweeted, saying he’s happy to be coming to the UK. You’re talking about Shakur Stevenson, a great boxer, but you’re also talking about Joe Cordina, one of the top boxing champions in the world right now. It was a great night for him.
“Like I said, you can win a world title or you can explode on the world stage like that, and that’s what Joe did tonight. I cannot wait for the future.
“It’s about the explosive moments, the moments that go viral, the moments that make you a superstar of the sport, that’s right there,” Hearn continued passionately about the home knockdown. Cordina’s IBF Ogawa featherweight champion.
“Sometimes you can find your way to a world title or try to reach a world title or you can go out and announce yourself to the world as a giant in the sport and Boxing. That’s what Joe Cordina did tonight.
“I called it in the media. Over the last 48 hours I started thinking about the fight and I just imagined Joe winning by knockout because I thought he had stealth power.
“He’s a very sharp puncher, and he’s a very smart puncher. Ogawa likes to rush in and be aggressive. What you see tonight is time from Joe Cordina, who I saw the box ten years ago in York Hall.
“I said, ‘This kid is special.’ But sometimes you never get the chance to do that. I want to thank DAZN, honestly, for spending the money to bring Kenichi Ogawa to Cardiff, so Joe Cordina can get the shot of his dreams.

“It changed his life tonight. As a young boxer we take on from Team GB, it’s always been extra special and I’m so happy for Tony Sims who slams a punch on Joe Cordina. He sacrificed a lot.
“From Cardiff to every camp, miss family to Brentwood. He’s finished his entire career and tonight made it all worth it, made it all worthwhile. I’m really pleased for him as well as Tony and Charlo because they really deserve it,” Hearn said.
