Two patients with the new Omicron variant have been discharged from the hospital in Karnataka to date.

Six new cases of Omicron were confirmed in Karnataka today. Health Minister Karnataka K Sudhakar said five of these cases were from two Covid-19 outbreaks in two different educational institutions in the Dakshina Kannada region of the state.
The first cluster has 14 Covid cases, with 4 being Omicron and the second cluster has 19 cases with one confirmed case being Omicron.
“Out of 5 students, 4 students have tested negative for Covid 19 and are attending class while one girl is in isolation and even she doesn’t have any symptoms.. . None of them or their relatives have any history of foreign travel.” Dr. Ashok, senior official of Dakshina Kannada District said
A tourist from the UK has also tested positive in the state, bringing the total number of Omicron cases to 14. Two patients with the new variant of Omicron have been discharged so far. One is said to have fled to Dubai. Omicron’s total active cases in the state are now 11.
While the international passenger from the UK and one, 19-year-old from one of the clusters, received two doses of the Covid vaccine, the other four were not.
Sharing detailed information about the incident, the health department said that an 18-year-old female passenger from the UK, an Indian nationality, went to the airport for testing on December 10.
“After testing positive at the airport, she was immediately transferred by ambulance to the hospital on the same day. The patient was asymptomatic and vitally stable. Three main points of contact and 16 points of contact. secondary contacts were all tested and reported negative,” it said.
Among the cases from the cluster, a 19-year-old woman, who was vaccinated, had her sample taken for a Covid test on December 8 at a college in Mangaluru and her report was released on December 9.
The department said she has no symptoms and her health is stable. Her 42 primary contacts and 293 secondary contacts were tested, and of those, 18 students tested positive and the rest negative.
Hers is a cluster case where 19 samples were submitted for genome sequencing, by set.
The remaining four cases are girls, three are 14 years old and one is 13 years old, and they have not been vaccinated.
They took a Covid test sample on November 21 at a college in Bantwal and their report came the next day, the department said, adding that the patients had symptoms – fever, loss of taste and smell sense. They have been isolated at the dormitory and have recovered.
79 primary touchpoints and their 203 secondary contacts were tested, and of those, 13 students were positive and the rest were negative, which further indicates that they are cluster cases where 12 Samples are submitted for genome sequencing.
New cases of Omicron were detected after five were reported in the state on Thursday.
