Holi, the festival of colors is upon us. It was a day filled with family, friends and loads of fun. It also includes smearing colors on each other, splashing with dye, or fighting with water balloons.
If you’ve spent the last few days attending some party, you’ll be spotted with a multitude of colors. While you’re focused on getting the perfect outfit, don’t forget about the body openings. Hair and skin care, before and after the festival will be extremely important.

When you get home, rush into the shower. Do not rub the skin with a loofah or any other rough tool. Also, avoid taking a bath that is too hot as it will dry out your skin, leaving it itchy and damaged. Use a gentle scrub on your body.
After showering, use moisturizer all over the body. Skin care also includes what you put into your body. So, rehydrate yourself by drinking plenty of water and fresh juices to flush out any toxins.
For facial skin, you should use Rosehip oil or Argan oil along with sunscreen for those with dry and oily skin. Rosehip oil is nourishing and can relieve stress. It helps in the production of new skin cells to give you a youthful appearance. Vitamin F in rosehip oil helps to retain moisture and protect the skin from damage.
Argan oil is great for boosting the immune system due to its high vitamin E content. Furthermore, it aids in the maintenance and repair of skin and eyes. It also protects from sun damage.
If you are prone to acne or have scattered breakouts on your face, acne patches are a great option to cover them and avoid infection. Also, if you have any cuts or wounds before playing holi, make sure it is cleaned to prevent infection.

Wash the dye and color off your hair as soon as you get home. But don’t be too strict with your hair. Stand under running water for 10 minutes and let the color run out of your hair. Use a mild shampoo to clean your hair. Opt for nourishing products that also soothe the scalp. Don’t worry if the color doesn’t fade in one go as it can take a few days for the hair to retain its natural shine.
After washing, don’t miss the conditioner and hair serum to apply along the length of your hair. Moisturizing is essential at this time.
Men can apply a serum or hair cream to provide nourishment along with moisture. It will also reduce the negative impact of color on the scalp. Use serums that have jojoba oil as their main ingredient.
One seemingly random trick is to get rid of split ends by trimming your hair. You can do this after the festival as it will remove dry or damaged hair. When the color gets on the hair, it tends to dry out and damage the hair after washing it off. Damaged hair can cause additional damage to the ends of your hair and can lead to more split ends. By trimming your hair after the festival, you can get rid of split ends and damaged hair.
After Holi, treat yourself to a hair treatment like a hair scrub, a detox cleanse or even a simple hair spa. This will remove any last traces of color without damaging the hair while also boosting moisture and much-needed TLC.
Exfoliating Types to Try
Body scrub at home: Mix brown sugar, honey and aloe vera together, then puree. Very gently exfoliates body and face to remove any color. You can make this in advance and keep it in the fridge.
Hair mask: Put 1 teaspoon of honey, yogurt and juice of half a lemon in a bowl. Mix and massage the scalp. Apply to the length of the hair. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and wash off.
