Skyrim multiplayer mode passes 80,000 downloads, but the development team is moving on to new projects
Skyrim Together Reborn, a mod that adds co-op functionality to Bethesda’s favorite RPG, has been downloaded more than 80,000 times in three days.
However, despite its success, the development team behind the mod is officially moving on to other projects, telling the community that improving it is up to them.
The team shared the following reddit update Skyrim Together Reborn releases on July 8, said that was happy with the launch, although there were some technical difficulties, these were expected and most of the players seemed to be able to play as intended. The only major problem is that some servers are down, but a hotfix for this will be released soon.
“We are very excited about Reborn’s future,” the post read. “With thousands of hours of labor put into the project, we’ve done most of the heavy lifting for you. With the mod becoming open source, it’s now up to Reborn to upgrade and evolve is up to you. It’s up to you, the community.
“The current dev team is very tired and frankly only interested in branching and doing other projects. We’ll still be here to guide new developers, code review and perhaps rolling out features and fixes from time to time. However, right now, we need a break.”
It’s unclear what these other projects will look like, but the team is also working on a Fallout Together mod that, as the name implies, brings collaboration to Fallout 4.
Bethesda Games has always had an avid modding community but Skyrim Together Reborn adds a whole new way to play for those still roaming around Skyrim more than a decade after it was released.
With Elder Scrolls VI possibly still many years away, it offers a new way to play Elder Scrolls for many people. Last year, director Todd Howard revealed that Bethesda’s new space RPG Starfield has taken precedence over a Skyrim sequel and the sci-fi game is was recently delayed until next year it’s him.
