President Mohamud has launched a campaign against the al-Qaeda-linked group in its struggle for stability.
The Somali government has announced a crackdown on media organizations that publish what they consider to be propaganda for the armed group al-ShababWarning violators will be punished.
The armed forces, supported by local militias and international allies, have waged an active campaign against the al-Qaeda-linked group.
“I would like to inform the Somali media and all Somalis in general that we will treat all propaganda related to al-Shabab – including terrorist acts and their ideology. – are crimes that deserve punishment,” Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Abdirahman Yusuf said on Saturday.
“The Somali government completely prohibits all forms of reporting related to terrorist ideology and threatening actions by [al-Shabab]”He told reporters.
Yusuf said the government has also launched cyber operations against “terrorist accounts” on social media and suspended more than 40 accounts on Facebook and Twitter.
Recently gourd President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has pledged to defeat the armed group after countless deadly attacks.
In August, al-Shabab . fighters unleash a gun and bomb attack during a deadly 30-hour siege on a hotel that left 21 people dead.
The armed group has expelled from Mogadishu by African Union forces in 2011. However, it still controls the countryside.
The deadliest attack occurred in October 2017 when a truck loaded with explosives exploded in Mogadishu, killing 512 people.
