Sony celebrates PlayStation 5 anniversary, reveals most played games of its first year
In honor of the first anniversary of the PlayStation 5 launch, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has arrived Blog PlayStation to look back on the past year and what’s to come.
Even in a year where it felt like a PS5 console was hard to find (and still is!), gamers have spent a lot of time on the current-generation device. Ryan boasted: “PS5 gamers have played more than 4.6 billion hours of games on PS5 and broadcast more than 26 million hours of content. Without a doubt, the DualSense controller also has a very impressive charge count. Along with these impressive stats, Ryan has made it to the list of the ten most played games on PS5 in the past year. A few are less surprising, but some of the launch titles are still on the list even though some are more popular.
- Fortnite
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- FIFA 21
- NBA 2K21
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Fate 2
- MLB The Show 21
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- the soul of the devil
- NBA 2K22
It’s great to see Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls hanging out with the most time-heavy hits like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, especially since they’re released on day one with (mostly) ) single player campaigns.
Jim Ryan also took a moment to highlight other major Sony exclusives like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Profit, and Deathloop, as well as recent studio acquisitions by Bluepoint Games, Firesprite, Housemarque, and Nixxes. He offers a glimpse into the future, with megaton releases coming next year and beyond in the coming year. God of War Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake. In total, 25 games from Playstation Studios are currently in development for PlayStation 5.
Despite facing PlayStation 5 availability difficulties, this is the first year with a lot of current and upcoming reasons to make the upgrade. That is if you are lucky enough to find one in the coming months.
