Sony Hires Director of Business Development to Find ‘Growth Opportunities Through Acquisitions’
As 2022 continues to be the year of acquisitions, with the news that Square Enix is selling Embracer Group three of its West development studios and over 50 IPs, it looks like Sony is still looking to push its first-party family.
That’s because the company is currently hiring a Chief Corporate Development Officer, “responsible for identifying inorganic growth opportunities through acquisitions,” etc., as discovered by Roberto Serrano’ on Twitter and reported by Chronicles of video games. It’s no surprise that Sony is looking to hire someone like this, especially when you look at the current video game scene – it feels like every other week a big acquisition is announced. .
“Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking for a highly qualified Director, Corporate Development”, the job of Sony list read. “SIE’s Corporate Development Team works closely with SIE’s management team and is responsible for identifying inorganic growth opportunities through acquisitions, investments or joint ventures. The team sources, evaluates, and completes deals that align with SIE’s strategic priorities and deliver significant long-term value to the company. ”
Elsewhere on the list, Sony says Sony is looking for people to promote proactive deal sourcing, including developing relationships with external and internal partners.
The news that Sony is looking to be what is essentially an acquisitions executive isn’t surprising – acquisitions have largely clearly defined the game in 2022 so far. It started with Take-Two Interactive, the parent company behind the Grand Theft Auto series, announcing back in January that it acquired mobile giant Zynga for almost 13 billion dollars. Then next week, Microsoft announces acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the company behind Overwatch and Call of Duty, at a whopping $68.7 billion. Two weeks later, Sony reveals they are buying Bungie for $3.6 billion and then announced it acquired Jade Raymond’s new studio, Haven Studios.
