Steve Torrence wins Pep Boys NHRA Top Fuel All-Star Callout
INDIANAPOLIS – Steve Torrence won the Pep Boys NHRA Top Fuel All-Star Callout specialty race Saturday at Lucas Oil Raceway as part of the NHRA US Nationals.
In the final round of the $130,000 grand total of the special event, Torrence, the four-time defending champion series champion, had a 3,692-second run at 329.02 mph to overtake the leader. head Brittany Force.
“First of all, a lot of respect for Brittany and that team because they were terrible to the bone, but their Capco boys have been to the bone for five years,” Torrence said. “We haven’t forgotten what we did, but you have to persevere and stay with the boys who got you there. I’ll tell you what, we’re proud. Now we look not stupid because we’re walking away with cash.”
Justin Ashley led Top Fuel qualifying for the regular season finale. Robert Hight was the fastest in Funny Car, Greg Anderson was first in Pro Stock and Angelle Sampey was first in Pro Stock Motorcycle.
Ashley maintained her No. 1 spot with 3,671 at 335.32, breaking the track speed record and going on to stay in the second qualifying round of her career.
