Streamer bid farewell to TwitchCon, revealing surgical scars
Adriana Chechik, who made headlines earlier this month after she broke her back in two places at TwitchConis back online with some updates — and a closer look — on how her recovery went.
If you haven’t seen it yet, Chechik broke her back at TwitchCon after jumping into a foam hole, a seemingly innocuous act that, thanks to the pit’s shallowness, led to her banged her tailbone on the floor so much that “the bones were completely crushed”, fused multiple vertebrae together, and suffered “nerve damage” [her] bladder”.
Her recovery has been rough. This is what she wrote on October 13 after a physiotherapy session:
Tried to sit up in PT today, I’d rather die than do so again. I hate this, my whole body hates it. I don’t want to be tough. I didn’t want to be brave, I cried for an hour and the pain was immense through all the drugs I was taking. Not if I could do this. I cannot explain this pain.
Chechik, now home from multiple surgeries – the surgery took more than 5 hours – returned to Twitch over the weekend for more updates on the injury, its aftermath and several weeks into her condition. after the accident.
In this clip, Chechik mentions how she was still gasping for breath while doing the simplest of daily tasks, before revealing a large scar running down the middle of her back:
Later while playing she says that tests conducted on her while in hospital revealed that she had been unknowingly pregnant at the time of the injury, but then lost the baby due to the surgery required on her spine:
In the wake of this and other injuries suffered at the event, neither Twitch (organisers of TwitchCon) or Kairos Media (the creative agency actually running the booth) have commented publicly.
