At TwitchCon last week, streamer Adriana Chechik broke her back in two places after jumping into a foam pit which seems neither deep nor soft. Since then, she’s been sharing details and videos of her injuries, and somehow they’re even worse than first reported.
Write on her Twitter account last weekChechik said on October 12:
So the surgery went well, 5:30pm! More bumps than expected, completely crushed bones and nerve damage in my bladder, hopefully I’ll be able to pee again in the near future…there’s some blood around the bone but overall is good!
I am sore but feeling hopeful and eager to bring the heat back to walking! Anyone know where I can get my splint bleeding and or a pink coating for it as I will be in it for a long time?
On October 13, she wrote:
Tried to sit up in PT today, I’d rather die than do so again. I hate this, my whole body hates it. I don’t want to be tough. I didn’t want to be brave, I cried for an hour and the pain was immense through all the drugs I was taking. Not if I could do this. I cannot explain this pain.
A day later, she added:
For ppl ask why do you jump. Don’t try to make me the bad guy. I am among all those who assume it has been met with proper safety precautions. It’s like getting into a car assuming the airbag will work and it doesn’t. I have no fault. No victims were injured.
And wrote on Instagram:
Today I shower with a sponge and wash my hair. Not being able to move or do anything for myself is hard. I am very grateful to the nursing staff. I never thought I would be motionless. The next few days will be extremely difficult. Yesterday I sat up and then spent the rest of my day in hysteria and pain. You realize how much pain you have to overcome. Please pray that I will find the strength to stand strong today. I do it once a day and if I don’t like it I don’t ham. But I would like any words of encouragement or reading material to assist me on my journey. Thank you to everyone who supported me!

On October 15, she went to a Monday surgery, before being discharged earlier today:
It is important to remember that these horrific injuries, subsequent surgeries, and the long road to recovery ahead, is the result of a negligence that occurred in a foam pit. At the time of the incident, we reached out to Twitch (the organizer of TwitchCon), Lenovo (the sponsor of the foam pit) and Kairos Media (the actual creative company that runs the booth), and a week Only later did Lenovo publicly address the situation.
