Tapit Trice, Il Miracolo heading to Belmont
‘TDN’s Rising Star’ faucet Trice (faucet), latest Saturday for Mage (good magic) in the May 6 GI Kentucky Derby, covered five long distances in 1:00.22 on the fast Belmont main track Friday morning in his penultimate game against GI Belmont S. at Big Sandy June 10. He galloped 3/4 mile in a powerful 1:12.60 and raced seven times in 1:25.
Coach Todd Pletcher said: “Super wind, gallop. “He seems to really enjoy the main track here. I’m very, very pleased with the way he trains. He hasn’t missed a beat since the Derby. He is well settled. He is galloping on the main track. He had a light breeze last week [half-mile in :49.04 May 19] and a more severe wind today. That’s an important job today, we’ll be back for maintenance next week. We always thought a mile and a half would work for him.”
A win will make faucet Trice’s fifth son faucet to capture Belmont, in addition to the previous successes of tone artist (2014), Creator (2016), Tapwrit (2017) and essential quality (2021). Pletcher loved the chance to see the pony’s 12 feathers.
“He surpassed the Dunkirk (Unrestrained Song) mare I trained and came in second [to Summer Bird] inside [2009] Belmont. From a pedigree point of view, you would think he was capable,” Pletcher said. “He has a long, galloping stride. I think the main thing is to make sure he gets into that relaxed rhythm and doesn’t give himself too much work in the first place. Belmont isn’t necessarily a closer race, but it looks like he’s really getting to it the right way.
Will be a favorite Derby and ‘TDN Rising Star’ forte (Violence) And Kingsbarns (Uncle Mo) was scheduled for Friday, but will now run on Saturday morning at 8:45. Pletcher isn’t sure when Kingsbarns will return to the tab.
“He’s a little sick to his stomach today, so we couldn’t take him,” Pletcher said of Kingsbarns.
At Gulfstream Park Friday morning, coach Antonio Sano sent Il Miracolo (gunman) to travel five miles on a sloppy main track clocked at 1:01.06.
“He had a very good job. He’s going to Belmont next Saturday,” Sano said. “It was a very strong race and the horse is a bit green at the moment, but I hope it can run well and run a strong race.”
Sixth and defeated after Forte in GII Fountain of Youth S. and again in HOLD make for curly Florida Derby, Il Miracolo is the direct winner of the one mile/claimer option at Gulfstream May 11.
