A person dirty by Tapwrit (hip 167) , who boomed for a long time in :9 4/5 during Monday’s challenge performance, topped the Texas Thoroughbred Association Training 2-year-old Sales for a final bid of $300,000 from trainer Randy Morse on Wednesdays at Lone Star Park. Morse, runner-up with Taxed (collect) in GIII Fantasy S. on Saturday, purchased the young on behalf of owners Randy Patterson, Joe Morgan and Sam Vogel.
“She was fast,” Morse said of the little girl’s attractiveness. “Really good job. There’s a really strong headwind and for a horse to do a :9 4/5 on dirt road, that’s impressive. And physically, she looks like an athlete. I love the look of her. But time will tell.”
Morse admitted that he may have found a bargain at the Texas auction.
“Honestly, I think if she was in Florida, she would bring more than that,” he said. “But like any sale, if there’s a good deal, someone will show up.”
Consigned by Al Pike’s Pike Racing, agent, the gray dog is out of Sky O’Blue (Henny Hughes). She was purchased by Susan Naylor Sellers for $60,000 during the Fasig-Tipton sale last July.
“She just had a presence with her,” Naylor said of her decision to buy the dirty girl last summer. “She’s just a pretty, well-proportioned little girl who walks properly and looks agile.”
Naylor confirmed her intention to always resell the dirty thing when selling 2 years old.
“Absolutely. I’m a pinwheeler first and if I have to race them afterwards, I will,” she said.
Naylor has also had success with racing as her default. She was represented by a pair of horses in last year’s Breeders’ Cup; Purebred Andthewinneris (Oscar), who she bought for $67,000 at the September 2021 sale in Keeneland, and Manny Wah (Will Take Charge), who she bought for $175,000 at Fasig’s July 2017 sale – Tipton.
Naylor giggled and said, “And I had to score two in this sale. “Who knows, maybe you’ll see us next year at the Breeders’ Cup.”
According to Naylor, the Texas sale seems like a good fit for the speedy gray cats.
Naylor explained: “She seemed to be coming early and fast. “And they don’t judge down here. She doesn’t have many pages, but so did Bwana Charlie when we sold him down here in 2003. We paid him $14,000 and sold him for $240,000, a huge amount at the time. at that moment. And I know they like gray here, so I thought a nimble gray girl, this would be the place for her. She won’t get lost.”
Regarding the breeze of the bullet Monday, Naylor admitted, “We were blown away. She looks great doing it, but then they print out what it is – that doesn’t happen often. And especially with this song. This track used to be a lot faster, but it’s not as fast as it used to be.”

However, with the uncertainty surrounding racing and Texas and its conflict with the Equestrian Integrity and Safety Authority, Naylor admits she’s not sure what to expect from today’s sale. Wednesday.
