Teams ask NFL about trade deadline delay
After the busiest trading deadline day in NFL history, several teams are interested in making it even busier.
Multiple teams have reached out to the NFL office over the past week to ask about pushing back the trade deadline from its current position after Week 8 to after Week 10 or Week 12, league sources told ESPN.
The issue is expected to come up at NFL general manager committee meetings later this month, and could then be further discussed and presented for vote at owner meetings of the NFL. tournament in the spring, according to sources.
Pushing back the trade deadline would be in line with what the NFL has been trying to achieve with other recent moves.
In recent years, the federation has expanded training teams, made veteran players eligible to join those training teams, changed the rules governing injured substitutes and designated players. intend to return from IR, and demonstrate the flexibility to adapt to the requirements of the teams.
A later trading deadline can lead to increased activity as teams will have a better understanding of their chances of making it to the knockout stages.
The NFL had previously moved the trading deadline date back in 2012, pushing back the date by two weeks from the Tuesday after Week 6 to the Tuesday after Week 8 in an effort to encourage deals. Some wanted to push the date back even further to that point, but the owners worried that there would be too much movement on the listing.
