The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom there’s an item-of-the-day clone glitch that allows you to create clones of new weapons and shields. It’s a useful exploit, easy to implement, and can alleviate a lot of headaches that come from Breath of the Wild next partWeapon’s degradation system.

Intrusion device Kingdom Tears no longer as annoying as the first game thanks to a new merge ability that allows you to combine weapons for increased durability and strength. A recently discovered item duplication glitch makes it even less of a worry. It was found by Twitter user Modoki_returns and share on YouTube in a video by BLAINE and it’s pretty simple to grasp.
Like a lot of item duplication bugs in the Nintendo Switch game, it revolves around some menu trickery. Basically any of your new melee weapons, bows or shields detect the first can be copied in just a few steps, creating a second copy that you can start using after the first break.
How to clone weapons in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Drop the strongest shield or weapon in your inventory.
- Make sure you don’t have a shield or weapon equipped.
- Pick up a shield or weapon with a “???” icon.
- Once the info message is displayed, press the start/plus button to open your inventory screen.
- Press Y to sort the items.
- Equip an item that you want to remove.
- Leave the inventory screen.
- Open the backup inventory screen and drop the item you want to remove.
- Pick it up.
- It will now be a copy of the new item you selected earlier.
The glitch will only work if the weapon you’re picking up and copying is the strongest weapon in your inventory, so make sure to drop anything that might get in the way of that weapon first. You can also reload your most recent save if you accidentally pick up a new powerful device for the first time and forget to use mining.
Players used it to copy 70 power Royal Shield found near the beginning of the game, but it’s useful for everything. The only major limitation right now is that there doesn’t seem to be a way for it to work with items found in treasure chests. So it can’t give you a second Hyrulean Shield for example.
All in all, it’s no different from problem copy item in Breath of the Wildor the ones people are using to copy content in Pokémon Scarlet And purple. The current method is not quite as powerful as those, but its ease of use saves a lot of time. We’ll see how soon Nintendo will patch it and if players can discover an even better clone exploit than before.
