Telangana BJP MLA T Raja Singh was today arrested for allegedly insulting comments to the Prophet Muhammad following last night’s protests in Hyderabad demanding action against him.

According to various reports, protests broke out in front of the office of City Police Commissioner CV Anand and other parts of Hyderabad on Monday night.

Mr Singh released a 10-minute video that allegedly made insulting comments to the Prophet Muhammad.

While stroking comedian Munawar Faruqui, whom he recently tried unsuccessfully to interrupt a performance, he said it was a “comedy” video like Mr. Hindu god.

A huge crowd had gathered outside the Commissioner’s office and elsewhere in the city. The protesters were arrested and later transferred to different police stations.

T Raja Singh, MLA from Goshamahal in the city, was there last week trying to interrupt a comedy show.

On Friday, he was detained by police to stop him as he tried to get to the venue of popular comedian Munawar Faruqui’s concert with about 50 supporters to get it cancelled. The performance then passed peacefully.

Mr Singh’s controversial comments come just months after former BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma sparked a major diplomatic backlash with her remarks about the Prophet.

Nupur Sharma has been suspended by the BJP and has up to 10 lawsuits against her across the country.
