Tendon injuries may be over by 2022
Coach Roger Teal has revealed that signs of a tendon injury after a preliminary scan could rule out the Oxted (GB) Group 1 (GB)-winning sprinter (Mayson {GB}) from returning to competition. in year.
The July 2020 G1 Darley Cup winner, Oxted raced against Tony Hirschfeld, Stephen Piper, David Fish and John Collins, and he added the win at G1 King’s Stand S. Cup crown.
Now six, he has not been seen on the track since last summer after undergoing knee surgery to remove a floating piece of bone. Teal had aimed for Ox towards a seasonal return in the G2 Duke Of York S. at a meeting with Dante in York but a problem with his proximal forefoot made it possible to check for an injury.
“We still don’t know 100 per cent how bad the injury was, but it clearly got us out of York and will probably knock us out for the rest of the season,” the coach said.
“We will check him again next week and then maybe, if there is a miracle. I’ve been playing this game long enough. Perhaps even more doubtful is that he will make a comeback this year.”
He continued, “He had a small tear in the tendon. You can get away with a knock sometimes, so that’s why we had to check him out again, but we fear the worst. Once you have something there, it often evolves into something worse.
“He’s still relatively young until the sprinters leave and if we take care of him now, hopefully we can bring him back.”
