Teofimo Lopez announces he is vaping all his belts for Devin Haney, wants to fight at 140⋆ Boxing News 24
Via Sean Jones: Teofimo Lopez has announced that he’s vacating all of his lightweight titles after he defended this Saturday night Nov. George Kambosos Jr. at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Although Teofimo (16-0, 12 KOs) says he will stay at 135 long enough to face the WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney to decide a truly undisputed champion for the weight class.
Teofimo, 24, said what made him change his mind about sticking to 135 to face Haney (26-0.15 KOs) is that he’s been fighting at lightweight for the past eight years and that Devin had won the World Boxing Championship via email to the Council.
In other words, Haney wasn’t fighting for his WBC lightweight title, it was given to him outside the ring.
Teofimo claims that he’s had all the titles since 2020 and none of the other top lightweight athletes have attempted to join the fight with him.
Teofimo vacated ALL of his titles
“No, a duel with Haney is possible. The whole point is that they have to see me,” Teofimo told Boxing Social when asked if he was going up to 140 instead of at 135 to face Devin.
“I told this weight [lightweight] too long. I’m starting to realize some things, man.
“First of all, you don’t really earn the belt [WBC] or fight for the belt,” Teofimo said of Haney being named champion by the World Boxing Council via email. “You [Haney] sent it by email.
“Secondly, I’ve been at this weight for eight years now. I waited a whole year, two years just to get a call from any of them. They didn’t show up, so I felt like no one wanted to come to me because I had all the straps,” Teofimo said.
“So maybe If I drop all the belts, see how confident they all will be afterward. Let me have that fight [against Haney] at 140. Yes, come see me at 140. Why am I fighting someone who hasn’t even won the title? He hasn’t even competed for a world title,” said Teofimo.
If Haney wants to fight Teofimo right now, he will need to move to 140 and face him without any predefined straps.
Of course, Haney could always wait until Teofimo faces undisputed lightweight champion Josh Taylor, and if he beats him, he could fight him with all four. belt on rope.
Haney fails to win her title – Teofimo
“He doesn’t even know what it feels like to earn it. You sent it by email, man,” Teofimo said. “I got all these belts, man. To all those who are supporting Devin Haney, you too are fake. I don’t like you guys. What do you think I will do?
“I’m picking this ball up. I won’t pass it on to none of you and that’s what I’m looking forward to, man,” Teofimo said of his vacating the IBF, WBA, WBC Franchise & WBO lightweight titles.
Haney may not like it but Teofimo is telling the truth when he brings out the truth about him being a mild email champ.
