Via Jim Calfa: Angry Teofimo Lopez Sr sent a message to WBC lightweight champion Regis Prograis on Wednesday that his son, Teo, will “beat him” in April.
Teofimo Sr was surprised to learn that Prograis (28-1, 24 KOs) did not mention his son’s name on Tuesday when he spoke to Jose Ramirez on social media.
When Ramirez declined to join the bout, Prograis expressed interest in a rematch with WBO champion Josh Taylor, who will rematch Jack Catterall next in early 2023.
Interestingly, the guy who wants to fight Teofimo next is Ramirez, who has repeatedly mentioned that he wants to fight him or Arnold Barboza Jr.
Prograis felt that Teofimo would not be his match after seeing his poor performance against Sandor Martin on December 10.
The logical reason Prograis didn’t mention Teofimo, aside from the fact that he looked underwhelmed against Martin, could be because it’s commonly known that Top Rated is lining him up for a WBO belt challenge against winner Taylor vs. . Catterall II.
Teofimo is ranked #1 with the WBO, making him the likely pick to challenge winner Taylor-Catterall II’s winner.
“We want him, and we want him in April,” said Teofimo Lopez’s father NEWS about wanting Regis Prograis in April. “He doesn’t have another fight, man. He wants a big battle.
“If you listen to the interview with [Jose] Ramirez. What did Ramirez say? ‘Teofimo Lopez won’t take that money.’ What did Prograis say? ‘I want to fight Josh Taylor again.’
“He never mentioned my son. Dude, be realistic. Josh Taylor won’t give you another chance. Have you lost your mind? He’s having his own thing right now.
“So the more realistic fight and a big fight is Teofimo Lopez. So how the hell did you come here and talk to Josh Taylor when Ramirez told you about Teofimo Lopez? We’re chasing one of his**.
“I don’t hate the guy [Prograis]. The guy is a very nice guy. I like him. I have met him before. This is boxing, so he has to take on the challenge. My son is an easy prey for Regis. So come and get it.
“That’s what everyone is talking about. There’s no way my son can defeat Prograis. The same thing happened to [Richard] Commey and the same thing happened to Loma.
“I’m going to make all these fuckers swallow their words, and you know who I’m talking about. Bastards talk bad about my son, and then they have to eat tit for tat.
“We have done it twice before. We can do it three times easily because my son doesn’t lose to a mother who comes to fight. No way. My son is gifted, man. Prograis doesn’t move like my son. Do you know that.
“We will beat him. We will beat him in every round. We’re not going there for the knockout. We’re going to step in to get him out, and that’s what these guys are afraid of.
“They are afraid of boxers. I wouldn’t tell my son to go in there to knock anyone out because I never said that to my son. I said, ‘If it comes, let’s go and get it.’
“I don’t put that pressure on him. I’m really happy right now; I am in a good place. We won, and I want to tell everyone, we won the hell,” said Teofimo Sr. talks about Teo’s controversial 10th half split decision against Sandor Martin.
“Now we are getting our bare minimum back. A lot of money. They have to go to the bathroom and s**t but s**t out. They are very angry, and I love that. Tell Prograis we’re coming for one of his.
“I like him as a human being, but when it comes to boxing, you’re in the wrong territory, man. We will come and get one of yours, and it will be his second loss,” said Teofimo Lopez Sr.
