Terrorism continues to pose a serious threat to Afghanistan: India at UN

Emphasizing the expectations of the international community, including acknowledging the Taliban’s commitment not to allow Afghanistan’s land to be used for terrorist activities, India at the United Nations Security Council meeting said that terrorism continues to pose a serious threat to Afghanistan and the region.
Indian Ambassador to the UN Dr Tirumurti said on Wednesday (local time) during the UNSC meeting on Afghanistan.
He added: “It recognizes the Taliban’s commitment not to allow the use of Afghan land for terrorism, including those designated under UNSCR 1267.
Furthermore, the Ambassador said that Resolution “2593 also sets forth the international community’s expectations for a comprehensive, negotiated political solution with full, equal and meaningful participation of women.” , ethnic minorities and diverse political ethnic groups in the country”.
He also stressed that the immediate priority is to evacuate those trapped as well as ensure their free movement.
Referring to the Delhi Declaration on Afghanistan adopted at the Third Regional Security Dialogue of the National Security Advisers on Afghanistan, he said that the statement reflects “the region’s consensus on Afghanistan and has welcomed by the international community and key stakeholders, including Afghanistan”.
Mr Tirumurti stressed that Afghanistan had seen “a lot of bloodshed and violence” in recent years and now needed urgent humanitarian assistance to meet the people’s basic food needs.
