Tesla has officially started reporting its sales figures in Australia.
According to the latest VFACTS report, the electric carmaker has sold 4417 Model 3 sedans so far in 2022, making it the best-selling electric vehicle in Australia.
Its sales account for almost two-thirds (65.4%) of all Australian electric vehicle sales so far in 2022. Although there are no reports of deliveries. Model WILL, X modeland Model YModel 3’s strong quarter means Tesla is ahead of Honda (4,089) on the sales charts.
It comfortably stands ahead of Audi (2713) and Lexus (2088) in the luxury sales race, though it still trails BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The third model is followed by Mercedes-Benz EQA (318 units) and Hyundai Kona Electric (304) on the EV sales chart.
Mercedes-Benz is leading the race to sell electric luxury cars with sales of 490 units across the EQA (318) and EQC (172) models, followed by Porsche and electric Taycan (160).
Kia has already delivered 141 EV6 models by 2022, and Hyundai has already delivered 133 Ioniq 5 models to customers. Combined, the 437 vehicles Hyundai sold between the Ioniq EV (304) and the Ioniq 5 trailed Mercedes-Benz in terms of EV sales.
BMW has sold 216 electric vehicles across the new i4 (44), iX (84) and iX3 (86) model lines, as it prepares to launch electric cars in Australia.
Volvo is trailing Hyundai and Kia with the XC40 Recharge, with 131 deliveries reported in Q1.
The long-running Nissan Leaf managed to find 119 homes in the first quarter, outpacing the Polestar 2 (115). This is the first month of sales reports for Polestar, which started shipping to Australian customers in March.
Both outsold the regular MG ZS EV (111), which is being replaced by a new model in late 2022. Also being replaced later that year is the Kia Niro EV (79).
Audi’s e-tron SUV found 33 homes in the first quarter of 2022, outpacing the Lexus UX300e (29 units), while the Jaguar I-Pace recorded five sales.
Mazda has shipped nine MX-30 EV models, while the Renault Kangoo and BMW i3 S are still rolling.
