Tesla removes home charging cables from new US cars
Tesla took a leaf from Apple’s playbook and stopped packing charging cables for his car.
Originally called by Tesla_Adri On Twitter, CEO Elon Musk later confirmed the move.
Mr Musk said on Twitter: “The usage stats are very low, so it looks wasteful.
The home charging cable — which can be plugged into a regular home wall plug and is the slowest way to charge electric cars — is available for $400 (or A860) on Tesla’s website.
It is described as an “easy charging solution for customers who don’t drive a lot”.
However, Mr. Musk said Tesla will “reduce the price of the mobile connector by $200 and make it easy to order with a car.”
“Note, there’s no need for a cellular connector if you have a Tesla wall connector or use the Super Charger,” Musk said. “It is recommended to install the Tesla wall connector well before the vehicle arrives.”
CarExpert contacted Tesla Australia to see if the wall connector has been removed from local vehicles.
The local website now says: “Mobile Connect is included as standard equipment with a new Tesla. It’s a compact package that can charge your car from different outlets at medium to low speeds.”
