Why wait for an important celebration to embrace your legacy? Is it really necessary to allow 50, 75 or 100 years to pass before celebrating a long past? Apparently Ford doesn’t seem to think so, as the brand’s new Heritage Bronco Sport trim levels appear on 57lame pants celebrates the first Bronco SUV.
For the uninitiated, the Bronco SUV hit dealers for the 1966 model year. The small and rugged Bronco is a simple 2-door sedan that offers buyers very few amenities. Bronco upsized the 1978 model, sharing mechanical parts with Ford’s F-150 full-size pickup truck. Ford killed the Bronco after the 1996 model year, when consumer attention shifted from the rugged design to the wildly popular and more family-friendly Explorer.
Coming Soon: Chevrolet Trax 2024
In response to the growing popularity — and profitability — of the Jeep Wrangler, Ford revived the Bronco for 2021, this time in 2- and 4-door forms. The new off-road ready SUV builds on the Bronco brand’s trail-ready heritage and has proven popular with consumers.
While the new Bronco appears to be an off-roader on par with Ford’s original trailblazer fun, it’s also much larger and more expensive. Enter Bronco Sport:

While not a true SUV — it’s built on a monolithic architecture shared with Ford’s Escape small crossover — the Bronco Sport is more similar to the original Bronco in size and affordability. . Indeed, the Bronco Sport is still huge compared to the 1966 Bronco, 22 inches longer and running on a 13-inch longer wheelbase. The Bronco Sport is also 6 inches wider and 1 inch taller than the ’66.
And, about that legacy…
For 2023, Ford has offered Heritage versions of both the big Bronco and the Bronco Sport. We will look at Bronco variants later. As for the Bronco Sport, the standard Heritage is essentially a specially trimmed version of the mid-range Big Bend, while the Heritage Limited is based on the top-of-the-line Badlands version. And, according to Ford, Heritage Limited production will be limited to 1966 for example for 2023. There is no word on whether trim levels will be adjusted again for 2024.
And, about that legacy…
Heritage means enjoying some old decor elements. Specific items include the “Oxford White” grille with “Bronco” inscriptions in Racing Red, a White Oxford hood, 17-inch white wheels (forward, just assuming all white stuff. (Oxford White), white roof, distinctive side stripes and white interior trim on the doors, center console and dashboard. Also, and this is possibly the most interesting detail of the Heritage, is the classic Bronco fender badging.
Mechanically, the Heritage versions are not different from the non-Heritage Bronco Sports versions, which means that the standard Heritage is powered by the 181hp turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder, in while the Heritage Limited comes with a 250hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. -cylinder. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Consumer Guide recently spent a week with the 2023 Ford Bronco Sport Heritage Limited in Yellowstone Metallic, a trim level-specific color.

We’ll start with a purely subjective assessment of the Heritage decor: we love it. Not only did we receive some unwanted compliments on our test truck, but we also found the old white grille and wheels to be posh reminiscent of the original Bronco. However, we wonder how many new-generation car buyers appreciate the design references of the car introduced in 1966. Beyond that, we couldn’t help but point out that the Heritage Edition has small engine, turbocharger and Japanese brand tires. neither feels particularly true to the original Bronco concept. That said, we doubt anyone would really care.
We drove some Bronco Sports recently and you can Read our review of them here. But let us reiterate that we find Ford’s smaller Bronco offerings to be practical, sporty, and generally fun to drive.
Few of our complaints: We wish there was a little more space for rear-seat passengers, and for this money—our test truck listed for over $46,000—backdoor Electrical adjustment is not part of the agreement. That said, we do appreciate the rear door glass that opens separately, a handy feature that proves useful in tight parking spaces.
Here are some impressions of the limited Bronco Sports Heritage from our diary:
5 interesting things about Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line Black 2023
- Large and easy-to-read touchscreen graphics
- The sound system sounds pretty good
- There are a lot of possibilities to adjust the front seats
- Excellent car quality
- Good handling and driving feel
- Surprising premium cabin amenities
- Perforations on the chic plaid seat, imitating the old-fashioned plaid Bronco chairs
Over 168 miles, the Consumer Guide averaged 22.2 mpg, which isn’t bad considering the car’s power and performance.
Stepping up to Heritage Limited from the Badlands trim level will set you back over $6000. That’s a lot of money for the money just to upgrade the decorative elements. That said, the Heritage looks great and its ability to be a limited edition product could be worth more at the time of the exchange. For better value, consider the standard Bronco Sports Heritage.
The Bronco Sport is a practical compact crossover that is fun to drive, has a dripping personality and is very recognizable in a parking lot. If you don’t need to carry adults in the backseat too often, there’s little about Ford’s smallest crossover—the unloved EcoSport going away—to complain about. And, if you have the money to spend, the Heritage Editions look great.
