The body of a six-year-old girl who went missing on Thursday night from her home in the western Uttar Pradesh town of Hapur was found in a trunk at a neighbor’s house this morning.
Hapur SP police officer Sarvesh Kumar Mishra told reporters that the body had been sent for an autopsy. When asked if this was a case of rape, he said this can only be confirmed based on the results of an autopsy.
“Yesterday we received word of a missing girl. Today we were informed that some unpleasant smell was coming from a neighbour’s house. A team was sent but found the front door locked. . We broke the lock and entered the building with the field unit,” said Mr. Mishra.
“When we entered and searched the building, we found the girl’s body inside a box. The body has been recovered and has been sent for an autopsy. We are investigating every angle. “, he added.
The owner of the house (where the body was found) has been taken into custody.
In dramatic video from the area, he is attacked by an angry mob as he is being led away.
However, the police managed to form a shield around him and take him away before he was arrested.

The girl’s father told reporters he last saw his daughter on Thursday night, when she asked him for Rs 5.
He said it was around 5:30 p.m. this time.
“She didn’t return all that evening. Worried, we spent the whole night looking for her. The next day (Friday) we reported it to the police and again spent the day. to look for her,” he said.
The father said he was alerted to his daughter being taken away by a neighbor after feeds from CCTV cameras were installed in the area.
When checking CCTV feeds in the area, the father said he spotted his daughter being taken away by the defendant, first on a motorbike and then into his home.
