Police in Gurgaon have filed a lawsuit against former Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova, former Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher and 11 others for fraud and conspiracy to commit crimes by order of the court. FIR was registered under the complaint of a woman in Delhi who accused them of fraud.
Shafali Agarwal, a resident of Chattarpur Mini Farm in New Delhi, complained that she had booked an apartment in the project called Sharapova. One tower in the project is named after Schumacher, she said. The complainant added that the project was to be completed in 2016 but never took off.
She accused international celebrities of being part of the scam through associating and promoting it.
Previously, she filed in Gurugram court against M/S Realtech Development and Infrastructure (INDIA) Pvt. Ltd, other developers, Sharapova and Schumacher for scamming her around Rs 80 lakh.
The complainant claimed in court that she and her husband had booked a condominium in the Sharapova project in Area 73, Gurgaon, but the development companies had deceived them by luring them to put money into their project. them, the project was never delivered. .
“We became aware of the project through advertising and contacted the company’s management after having pictures of the project and many false promises,” she said in the complaint.
Ms. Agarwal accused Sharapova and Schumacher as promoters of the project of conspiring with buyers, adding that the former tennis star had visited the site and promised to open a tennis academy. and sports shops.
“In the brochure it is mentioned that she is promoting the project, and she also makes false promises, throws a dinner party with the buyer, and all this is done for the project, which has never been successful,” reads the complaint.
The FIR was registered under Sections 34 (common intent), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 406 (breach of trust) and 420 (fraud) of IPC at Badshahpur police station.
“By court order, the FIR has been registered and we are looking into the matter. The investigation is underway,” said Inspector Dinkar, SHO of the police station.
