The concept art behind The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
While Amazon is big Lord of the Rings showing is probably not the success that anyone involved in banking or promoting it might have hoped for, there is still some good stuff out there and one of the big things that i want to focus on for this post is its world design work.
While we’ve seen Middle Earth so many times on screen, from ’70s cartoons to six Peter Jackson movies, there are so many locations in this prequel series that we’ve only ever to listen of the. From the island kingdom of Numenor to the Southlands to the tourist village of Harfoot, the group of artists – led by Rick Heinrichs and Ramsey Avery – are at work. Ring of Power tasked with capturing a world we thought we knew and showing us, you’ve never seen all of its, or at least not when it’s as old as this.
In this slideshow you’ll find a selection of works by some of the artists responsible for this, mostly works in 2D on things like concept and environment design. There are links to each artist’s portfolio in their name, displayed at the top of each slide.
