ACM president Michel Boeri has hit back at media reports that Monaco is in danger of dropping the calendar for financial reasons after 2022.
“It has been suggested that Liberty Media’s claim is excessive for Monaco and that the Grand Prix will no longer be held,” French magazine Auto Hebdo quoted Boeri as saying of the reports.
“It is not true. We are still negotiating with them and now we have to make it concrete by signing the contract. I can assure you that after 2022 the Grand Prix will continue. take place.
“I don’t know if the contract will be for three or five years, but that’s a detail.”
Monaco appeared on the first Formula 1 world championship calendar in 1950 and has long been considered the crown jewel of the sport’s crown and the race every driver dreams of winning.
However, it is now facing competition from the likes of Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Miami and Las Vegas in flashy stakes, with some suggesting Monaco needs to modernize. and pay more to host the race.
McLaren boss Zak Brown told Reuters this month that Monaco “needs to be subject to the same commercial terms as the other major prix.”
