The GWM Haval H6 gets another upgrade, not for Australia

GWM has revealed a mid-life update for it Haval H6 Mid-size SUV in China but don't expect it to come to Australia.

It looks like GWM may be trying to push this model to get it to the end of its lifecycle.

The current third-generation model launched in 2020, arriving in Australia in 2021 to replace the 2015 classic known in China as the H6 Coupe; we skipped the second generation model.

The new Xiaolong Max, expected to replace the H6 here, has so far only been introduced with a plug-in hybrid engine.

This car has revealed 12 months ago at the 2023 Shanghai auto show as the “next generation midsize SUV” and “strategic model” for the brand, preparing to launch in the global market.

It measures 4758mm long, 1895mm wide and 1725mm tall on a 2800mm wheelbase – 103mm longer, 9mm wider and 1mm taller than the current GWM Haval H6 on a long wheelbase more than 62 mm.

When the battery runs out, the car operates like a normal hybrid, and GWM claims it has a more EV-like driving feel than other plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUVs.

It has an 85kW/140Nm 1.5-litre Atkinson engine mated to a two-speed hybrid transmission and 70kW/100Nm front and 150kW/350Nm rear electric motors for a total system output of 205kW And 585Nm.

There's a 20kWh battery that can be charged at up to 33kW using DC power, while the WLTC's electric-only range is claimed to be 83km with fuel consumption of 5.5L/100km.

There's an “intelligent system” that can switch between nine different riding modes based on road conditions in real time, along with GWM's Intelligent Torque Vectoring System.

When driving in the city, the Xiaolong Max will switch between pure electric two-wheel drive, serial hybrid mode and direct drive mode in first gear to avoid using the gasoline engine. At high speeds, it will use direct drive mode in second gear to maximize efficiency.

The system also features brake energy recuperation, and has vehicle loading technology that allows you to run external devices with up to 3.3kW of external discharge power.

Inside the Xiaolong Max there is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and an additional 12.3-inch passenger touchscreen. 10-inch display available.

Available features include a panoramic sunroof, surround-view camera, and semi-automatic parking assist.

A full suite of active safety and driver assistance features is also available, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping and attention assist, front cross-traffic assist, and congestion assist. traffic.

The Haval H6 does not currently offer plug-in hybrid power in Australia, although such powertrains are offered in other markets.

Here, it's offered with a choice of a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 150kW and 320Nm, or a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid with a total of 179kW and 530Nm.

The Haval H6 also offers different front-end styling depending on whether it uses a gasoline or hybrid powertrain, while the H6 GT is an SUV coupe sibling with different front and rear styling.

It's unclear what will replace the petrol-powered Haval H6 in Australia, as the Xiaolong Max is (at least for now) PHEV-only.
