“The King of Saudi Arabia is back” Boxing News 24
Via Charles Brun: Tyson Fury took to social media on Friday to hint at his next fight in 2022, calling himself the “King of Saudi Arabia”. If Fury is fighting in Next Saudi Arabia, Dillian Whyte may be unlucky.
WBC Heavyweight Champion Fury’s mention of Saudi Arabia could be construed as his next fight will be in that country, and will likely NOT be against his mandatory Whyte.
It doesn’t look good for Whyte when Fury is talking about fighting in Saudi Arabia because it’s not a big enough fight to be considered “big news,” he was implying.
Fighting Whyte, a guy knocked down by 40-year-old Alexander Povetkin in 2020, would be a huge disappointment except for a handful of Dillian fans.
You could argue that the majority of boxing fans around the world want to see Fury fight former IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr.
On Thursday, Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) found out from the World Boxing Council that he would only get 20% off his fight against Fury if it were to happen.
“I was in the gym, guys, smashing it. I have important news coming. The King of Saudi Arabia is about to return. I have some great news coming; hold tight,” Tyson Fury said on social media.
Specifically, the cut will be 80/20 in Fury’s favor, meaning Whyte’s stake will be less Split 75/25 that was recommended to him by Bob Arum, Tyson’s promoter in the Top Rated for the fight.
Unfortunately for Whyte, it is unlikely that Arum will stick to the 75/25 he has come up with.
That may not matter as Arum said in the same interview on Thursday that he will go ahead and will seek to stage a fight between Fury and Andy Ruiz Jr. or Robert Helenius.
Fury’s Ring Magazine heavyweight championship will be ready for a fight against any of those two picked by Arum.
Fans wouldn’t care one bit if Fury was stripped or stripped of his WBC belt because they see him as a heavyweight champion.
At this point, the titles are just embellishments for Fury to have something to wear on his shoulders as he prepares for his fights.
Losing the WBC belt might upset Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, but if it upsets them, they can always fight whoever ends up with the belt, be it Whyte or whoever.
