The Star Wars Jedi Way: Survivors Picked Up From the Fallen Order

Cal Kestis’ journey officially continues in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, set for PS5, Xbox Series and PC release in 2023. The sequel comes almost four years after Jedi: Fallen Order introduces us to the new Jedi, new Inquisitors, and one of the cutest droids in the galaxy. But there’s actually a longer period between the stories of both games: EA confirms Survivor is set five years after the events of Fallen Order, and our first look at Survivor shows Cal and BD-1 is in some serious trouble.

An important part of Cal’s life now, as far as the player knows, is the family and crew of Stinger Mantis, Cal’s constant home during the events of the Fallen Order. We don’t actually see the crew – Cere, Greez and Merrin – in the Survivor reveal, but we can surmise things didn’t go well for them. The trailer shows the Mantis being shot down on a desert planet, with a slow spin through its main hull showing nothing but trouble. Looking out the cockpit window, you can see a set of peculiar footprints stretching into the distance, indicating that Cal or another member of the crew escaped this crash alone. But the fate of the rest of the team remains a mystery.

As for the first desert planet we see, Star Wars has no shortage of sandy shores, and there’s also the possibility that it could be a new planet as it could potentially be a familiar one. , due to Fallen Order takes us to a few smaller planets- the visible world. If it’s an existing product, it’s only natural to assume Tatooine given its popularity. Plus, Survivor will essentially take place at the same time as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and we know that Inquisitors will be in both. It might even be the featured desert planet of the Jakku sequel trilogy. But it could also be the Jedha desert moon. The moon isn’t just a spiritually and historically significant place for the Jedi, and as we see later in the trailer, at some point Cal needs a lightsaber, but we also knows the planet that eventually became the base of operations for someone Cal had a relationship with: Seen Gerrera, whom Cal met in the Fallen Order.

Wherever one is on the planet, one can only glimpse the dire state of things for Cal. Several themes run through the trailer – slow-motion shots of a character in a bacta tank, a voiceover question about Cal, and a battle between Cal and another character. Let’s start with the latter first and how it sets up the other stretching chains.

A Jedi without a Lightsaber…Again

Spoiler alert! The ending of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order continues – if you haven’t beaten that adventure yet, this isn’t the article you’re looking for.

Regarding the lack of crew presence in the trailer, we mostly see Cal alone during the reveal. At one point, Cal attacks a masked figure wielding a red lightsaber, and apparently loses his lightsaber in the process.

Anyway, Survivor’s reveal gives us a strong sense that Cal is on the back foot, but for a series that has delivered such great lightsaber battles, and EA’s promise to expand on that those mechanics, he probably wouldn’t lack such a signature weapon for Long. That could lead to a theoretical trip to Jedha or another location known for its supply of kyber crystals, as he visits Ilum in the first game to forge his lightsaber with a kyber crystal. new.

As for that lightsaber? Well, it will eventually be in the hands of a powerful person working for the Empire. Though Cal loses his lightsaber in the middle of the trailer, the real reveal opens with a scene of Stormtroopers soldiers carrying a suitcase to a safe location, and then we see the suitcase that opens, in the glove of this figure.

The sharp teeth and skin suggest this is a pau’an, and it’s natural to assume this would be the Grand Inquisitor hunting Cal down, his appearance different enough from appearances in the series. cartoon and live-action of that character to signal it wasn’t him, and in fact, StarWars.com labeled him a royal senator. However, this opposing force is clearly looking to hunt Cal Kestis. And that’s no surprise, given that Cal has overcome the Empire over the years as a popular Jedi, and especially his clashes with some powerful enemies in Jedi: Fallen Order . This majestic character’s voiceover runs through the entire trailer, with the line “Tell me Cal Kestis, why lead when they’re not watching,” questioning Cal’s next move. What will it be like when he terrifies Cal’s lampshade.

Here, we can get another hint about Cal and the rest of the people in Mantis’ current situation, if the crew is really the “they” this character is referring to. He may be alluding to some sort of purpose of division between the group in light of the Empire’s growing power. As we know from the end of Fallen Order, instead of choosing to pursue the location of other potential Jedi in the galaxy, Cal destroyed the Holocron containing that information to keep those children safer, for Allow them to choose their own path. That information could be valuable to the Empire, but it also leaves the Mantis crew on their own – it is possible that not everyone in later years will agree with Cal’s call, or there may be other problems. Another issue arose during such oppressive times in the galaxy.

As we can see from the short scenes of this figure, even though he is working directly with the Inquisitors who have hunted Cal before, he is not at the Fortress Inquisitorious. We know he’s somewhere on Coruscant, as that city’s skyline looks like the perfect place to fly over while barely hooking up a droid. Either way, the Inquisitorious will certainly continue to be an antagonist to Cal.

As we mentioned earlier, it looks like Cal is pretty alone at the moment. But the trailer’s final remaining mystery could point to a potential ally in Cal’s continuing quest.

Who’s in the Tank?

Throughout the trailer, slow-motion shots of a character in a bacta tank are alternated alongside the rest of Cal’s tribulations, before ending with Cal standing in front of the speaker in the tank, in the middle of an empty room spread and deserted with overgrown flora. Cal was looking up at this white-haired figure, who seemed lonely in this room. It’s also worth noting that he has his trademark lightsaber (which he lost at some point in the trailer) on him at this point. He also appears to be wielding a blaster in a holster, which isn’t something Cal usually wears in Fallen Order. Perhaps Respawn is drawing from some of its expertise with shooters like Apex Legends and Titanfall and giving Cal some more ranged options.

We’ve only gotten glimpses of them up close, and while they do give off some of the main Cloud Strife vibes, chances are this is an entirely new character, albeit someone that Cal has could help in his darkest times, whether he wanted to or not. Finally, Cal’s villain asks, “What’s your next move, Jedi?” right before the trailer shifts to this mysterious new character, and the ominous room, coupled with Cal’s bewildered expression as he watches the character, could mean it’s not someone he’s particularly happy with. looks to go back. Remake game director Stig Asmussen said https://www.starwars.com/news/swca-2022-star-wars-jedi-survivor-interview that Cal would “connect with people who, at other times, might be seen as unprofitable.”

This drawing has mysterious black veins running across the shoulder, potentially signaling some kind of damage or injury that forces them to stay inside this bacta tank. They might be a necessity for Cal to, well, survive, in Jedi: Survivor, and most likely a survivor of some sort of their own, but they’re probably the test of Cal’s commitment to to his survival – this could be a Sith or another Dark faction, leading to the ferocious look on Cal’s face.

Unfortunately, the breathing mask, lighting, and bouncy hair obscure the characters’ faces a bit, so it’s hard to guess their exact identities, but the overall scene and trailer conveys a black moment. The night Cal found himself, leaving behind mysteries about what happened to Stinger’s Crew Mantis, how he planned to continue through the Empire, and more. We’ll have to wait to find out which returning faces will join Cal along the way, which new faces prove to be true allies, and how he plans to continue surviving against the Empire. closer to the launch of Jedi: Survivor next year.
