New in Safari is also the ability to separate the browser through profiles, meaning you can create one profile for work and another for your personal life. It will divide your history, extensions, cookies, Tab Groups and Favorites. It’s easy to switch back and forth.
You’ll also be able to create web apps, allowing you to turn your favorite websites into app-like experiences that you can place on the dock. Instead of opening a browser window, these web apps launch and behave like a traditional MacOS app when you click on it. You can get notifications from them and even segment them in tools like Stage Manager.
Additionally, Apple is making it easier to share passwords with close friends, family, and colleagues using a shared account. When you create a group, everyone will be able to add and edit passwords and share them through iCloud Keychain (with end-to-end encryption).

As with iOS 17, Apple will bring some new upgrades to the Messages app. Building on the inline reply feature first introduced with iOS 14, you can now swipe right to quickly reply to a specific message instead of having to long-press it each time. With Updates, you can jump to the first unread message in a group text—which is really helpful on days when group chats are more active than usual.
We’ll also see improvements to search in Messages. Whenever you search for something, the results are divided into categories like people, keywords, photos, and links to make searching easier. There’s also a one-time passcode eraser, which automatically removes one-time passwords via AutoFill—which clears your list of conversations. The company is also making a big push for Stickers. Any stickers you create (“Live Stickers” created with Live Photos included) with iOS or iPadOS will also be accessible on your Mac.

In an effort to prevent people from unexpectedly viewing sensitive images in Messages, AirDrop, FaceTime messages, and third-party apps, users will now have the option to enable Sensitive Content Alerts. That way, photos and videos with nudity will be blurred, with the option to choose whether you want to see them and the ability to block contacts. And, extended contact safety features for kids in iOS 15, parents and guardians will also be able to blur sensitive videos (besides photos) sent or received by their children. The feature will also work with the Photos app when opened in Messages.

Using “advanced device language modeling”, AutoCorrect will correct spelling errors more accurately. You’ll also see autocorrect words temporarily underlined—making it easy to keep up with what’s changed as you type. MacOS Sonoma will include a wide range of new accessibility features for vision, perception, and speech accessibility. In the list of possibilities with phonetic suggestions that appear when dictating and editing text via Voice Control, animations (like GIFs) can be paused in Safari or Messages, Live Speech where users can type messages to speak out loud in FaceTime and make phone calls, the option to customize the text size on Mac apps, and the ability to connect Made for iPhone hearing aids to your Mac. Upgrade to Notes App
If you’re trying to keep track of all your notes, you’ll be relieved to know that Apple is adding the option to link them together. - PDF: To help save time and effort, you’ll be able to populate PDFs in Preview with the enhanced AutoFill feature. It will identify fillable fields, like name, address, email, etc., and will automatically enter the information for you. And, in the Notes app, PDFs will be displayed at full width for an easier viewing experience.
- Remind: Putting together a grocery list? Reminders will automatically sort the items you add based on categories. It will remember your preferences whenever you change the way items are grouped. There’s also a new Column View that organizes sections into columns on your screen.
- Find me: You can add up to five other people to a Find My or AirTags network accessory. Added people will be able to track the item on a map or play a sound to help locate the item.
- Siri: The days of “Hey Siri” are over. All you have to do is say “Siri” to activate the voice assistant. This feature will only be available for Macs running M-series chips.
- Image: In addition to recognizing people, the Photos app will (finally) be able to automatically recognize dogs and cats.
- Music: Using Apple Music, you can invite friends to join playlists—giving them the ability to add, remove, or rearrange songs.
