After go out in a fire of infamy, from accusations of racism (total no black members vote in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the bizarre outfit that includes star-selling movie writers earn the title) to bribery (voters are enjoy a luxurious stay in Netflix’s City of Love Emily in Paris, leading to several nominations for the show), the 79th Golden Globe Awards were a matter of decision-making.
With the awards show expelled from longtime home NBC and their failure to secure a new broadcaster, this year’s Globes has been tweeted out from its official Twitter account. While there’s still a live version of the Globes at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, it hasn’t been on the red carpet, featured celebrities, or recipients. Instead, like Diversity report, “Staff of various non-profit organizations supported by HFPA were enlisted as presenters” and could give a bit of information about their respective organizations during the presentation.
“We will be upfront about what we are learning and challenge others to join us with members from over 50 countries. We have a unique place in the awards universe,” HFPA President Helen Hoehne announced during Sunday’s ceremony, nodding to the Globes’ renewed respect for diversity in the wake of the scandal.
Unfortunately, like New York Times‘Kyle Buchanan’ note, the Golden Globes Twitter account hasn’t been “straightforward” enough, not mentioning much of the projects its many recipients have won, leading to a degree of confusion (and googling) online:
And then this downright bizarre description of Steven Spielberg’s film West story, a musical romantic drama that ends in tragedy:
If that wasn’t enough, they deleted West story-is-a-com tweets and replaces it with this one tweet, creating a new phrase in the process:

Anyway, the biggest winner of the night was Jane Campion’s The power of the dog, a film about family and masculinity currently showing on Netflix, took home Best Picture, Best Director (Campion) and Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture (Kodi Smit-McPhee); Spielberg’s West story, won Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actress – Musical or Comedy (Rachel Zegler) and Best Supporting Actress – Comedy (Ariana DeBose); and HBO’s Heir, which won Best Drama – Drama, Best Actor in a Drama – Drama (Jeremy Strong) and Best Supporting Actress – Drama (Sarah Snook) .
The most notable win of the night went to Mj Rodriguez, who won Best Actress in a Drama – Drama for her remarkable performance in FX’s Posture. Rodriguez became the first transgender woman to win a Golden Globe in the main acting category.
