Welsh company Motorsport Tools (MST) is recreating the MG Metro 6R4 Group B race car.
Only five will be produced and will go on sale next year from AU$543,442.
Based on carThe company will use a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 from the B8 generation Audi S4.
The new model will be called the “all-new 6R4”, as MST does not hold the rights to the MG or Metro names.
MST will install a supercharger and other additional components to deliver 335kW of power, up from 265kW, with power sent to all four wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox.
The car initially weighs 1040kg, however it has not been confirmed how much the car will weigh.
It will feature an all-new carbon fiber body shell, based on the exact dimensions of the original fiberglass shell, designed in collaboration with New Zealand company Innovate Composites.
Motorsports Tools will offer buyers the choice of a custom interior or a lighter, cleaner cabin designed for racing and rallying activities.
The original MG Metro 6R4 used a Cosworth naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine rated at 186 kW in the analogue version and 305 kW in the race car, with power sent to all four wheels.
This same engine will then be used with the turbocharger on the Jaguar XJ220.
The original race car finished third in the Lombard RAC Rally in November 1985, but it’s all gone downhill since then. The following year, no Metros were able to complete a course, and then Group B’s rally was banned.
