Data experts at CIES Football Observatory released a list of the most valuable young players pursuing their careers across Europe’s top five leagues: Premier League (England), LaLiga (Spain), Bundesliga (Germany), Series A (Italy) and Ligue 1 (France).
CIES used their own algorithm to determine which players could pay the highest transfer fees when they moved to the club and divided them into six different positions: goalkeeper, centre-back, full-back , defensive midfielders, attacking midfielders and strikers.
The study included the top 10 players in each position as calculated by CIES using a proprietary econometric model that scrutinized key criteria such as age, experience level and contract status to estimate potential transfer value.
The Premier League can boast the most number of players on the list (17), while the Bundesliga (14) and LaLiga (12) are not far behind. Bayer Leverkusen is the club with the most players with six, followed by Barcelona (5) and Chelsea (4). However, both Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund Each team has the highest rated players in two different positions.
To qualify, all players must have played in the Big Five league and be under the age of 23 as of December 1, 2021.
